  • The 47th Congress of Heterocyclic Chemistry was held at the Kochi, Japan in October 26th to 28st, 2017, organized by Professor Nishiwaki, Kochi Institute of Technology. More than 500 organic chemists attended and discussed heterocyclic chemistry. There were 58 oral and 125 poster presentations. Ms. Huynh Thanh Truc (D3) talked about her resent results, and Miss Chikamatsu, Miss Obata, and Mr. Wada discussed their topics as a poster.

  • A magnitude 7.3 major earthquake hit again the Kumamoto district at 1:25, April 16th, 2016. All the lab members had taken refuge after the foreshock, so that all the members were safe. But, our lab, chemicals shelves, benches, hoods, office, and etc were in an annihilation state. Fortunately, no fire, no leak, and no gas leak in our lab. Additional earthquake is severe. All documents and books in the selves at the lab windows slid down into the floor, so that the lab became bright.

  • The 64th graduation research presentation for the senior students in the chemistry course program, faculty of Science, was held at Friday, February 19th, 2016. Fifty-one senior students performed their oral-presentation (8 min presentation and 2 min defense) about their research work for one year including Miss Satomi Nishikawa, Mr. Ryousei Wada, Miss Ayaka Chikamatsu, and Miss Megumi Obata of Prof. Nishino Research Group. Eight undergraduate students presented their interim report of research work. After seminar, some students got big Meretrix lusoria so called “hamaguri” near seashore.   • Prof. Nishino and seven students attended the 95th CSJ Annual Meeting, Nihon University, Chiba, Japan, March 26th-29th, 2015. Two graduate students oral-presented their current research topics and one undergraduate student oral-presented his topics in English in addition to four undergraduate students also presented their research topics as a poster. We discussed our chemistry and others very much in the meeting.

  • Prof. Takeo Konakahara, Tokyo University of Science, gave an intensive lecture "Retrosynthesis of Heterocycles" to undergraduate students (49 attendants) in September 24th-25th, 2014. His special talk was also held at the science building C329, September 25th, 2014. The title was Synthesis and Structure Activity Relationship (SAR) in the Antitumor Activity of Indole Alkalids; β-Carbolines and Ellipticine Derivatives.

  • The 44th Congress of Heterocyclic Chemistry was held at the Sapporo Public Hall, Sapporo, Japan, in September 10th to 12th, 2014, organized by Professor Shuto, Hokkaido University. More than 500 organic chemists attended and discussed heterocyclic chemistry. There were 58 oral and 140 poster presentations. Miss Chiaki Matsumoto and Miss Risa Matsumoto talked the result of their current research topics as a poster presentation. After session, we enjoyed crab dishes in a Sapporo traditional bar.

  • Ten students of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia, were invited by the JST Sakura Science Plan to Kumamoto University. One of the students, Miss Syuaibatul Islamiyah visited Prof. Nishino's office and discussed organic chemistry. Prof. Nishino also introduced his instrumentations, laboratory, and the department.

  • The 5th Special Seminar of Nishino and Ishikawa Research Group was performed at the renewed KU Marine Center, Amakusa, Japan, July 5th~6th, 2014. Mr. Shiomi and Mr. Tadano, respectively, introduced a current topics of the total synthesis of natural products. In the evening, we enjoyed very much of special dinner of Japanese traditional Sashimi (raw fish dinner) and Yakiniku meat. We also enjoyed to play arm wrestling after the dinner.

  • A special camp training of 46th International Chemistry Olympiad was held in Chemistry Department, Science Faculty, Kumamoto University, Japan, at May 24th and 25th, 2014. Six high school students selected from all of the Japanese high school came to examine analytical and inorganic chemistry. Experiment was reported by NHK TV and several newspapers.

  • The 1st Workshop of Molecular Chirality Science was held at Kusunoki Hall, Kumamoto University, Japan, March, 23〜24, 2014, organized by the Research Core "Biological and Chemical Sciences on Dynamic Chiral Molecules," Graduate School of Science and Technology, Kumamoto University.   • Prof. Keith Woerpel(Department of Chemistry, New York University)was held at January 14th, 2014, C-122 lecture room.   • International Kick-off Symposium for ISMCBC (Integrated Science for Molecular Chirality in Biology and Chemistry) was held in December 2nd, 2013 at Kusunoki Event Hall, Kumamoto University. Six researchers were invited outside, who together with five faculty members gave us a special talk. Prof. Nishino also talked his topics, "Mn(III)-Based Oxidative Radical Cyclization. Synthesis from Small Ring to Large Ring." In addition, Mr. Y. Matsui (D3), Mr. K. Tokishige, Mr. K. Hisano, Mr. M. Morikawa (M2), Miss. S. Sei, Miss. I. Honda, Miss. C. Matsumoto, and Miss. R. Matsumoto (M1) also talked in English about their current research topics as a poster. After symposium, a sociable was held at the top of the Kumamoto city hall from where Kumamoto castle was seen as a nice view.

Yuka Tanoue presented her current research work as a poster. As the congress was scheduled to adjourn in the future, all members of Nishino research group went by a rental bus to attend. The congress was very active to discuss chemistry. We then returned Kumamoto at 19:00 and had a meeting with beer near Japanese traditional Yakitori bar.

  • A special seminar of Professor Silvina Carla Pellegrinet, Instituto de Quimica Rosario (IQUIR), Department de Quimica Organica, Facultad de Ciencias Bioquimicas y Farmaceuticas, Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina, was held at September 10, 2012. The lecture title was "Reactions of Unsaturated Organoboranes: Design, Development, and Theoretical Studies." We discussed a lot of organic chemistry, especially, the Diels-Alder reaction using organoboranes. After that, we held a welcome BQ party for her at the central garden of the Science Faculty.

  • The 2012 Kumamoto University Open Campus was held at August 10, 2012. Nishino Research group performed an organic experiment, "Diels-Alder Reaction." About 60 high school students did the reaction themselves assisted by Prof. Nishino, Mr. Hisano (M1), Mr. Morikawa (M1), and Mr. Tokishige (M1). After the open campus, we enjoyed beers at Prof. Nishino’s office.

  • The ChemWest 2011 , the Chemical Society of Japan, was held at Tokushima University, Japan, in November 11 to 12, 2011. We went to Tokushima for 9 hours drive.   • The 41st Congress of Heterocyclic Chemistry was held at the Kumamoto City Convention Hall, Kumamoto, Japan, in October 20th to 22nd, 2011, organized by Professor H. Nishino, More than 400 organic chemists attended and discussed heterocyclic chemistry. There were 57 oral and 125 poster presentations with a special talk by Dr. Norito Takenaka, University of Miami, U.S.A. The following banquet was held at a restaurant, top of the City Hall, and prof. Taniguchi, president of Kumamoto University, and prof. Tohru Fukuyama, then president of the synthetic organic chemistry, Japan, complimented for attendance.
